OVERVIEW: Shakthi supports domestic/intimate partner violence survivors in gaining self-sufficiency by teaching them how to drive and helping them secure a legal driver's license.

IMPACT: In Central Florida, having access to transportation is often equated with having the ability to drive a car. By providing transportation resources, we can improve their opportunities, mobility, and access to essential services.

OVERVIEW: Shakthi assists survivors in obtaining legal support by offering attorney referrals and covering part of the initial fees for legal services including but not limited to: 

• Protective Orders

• Restraining Orders

• Injunctions

• Child Custody

• Immigration Matters

 

IMPACT: 75% of applicants receive a portion of necessary legal funding and support.

OVERVIEW: Shakthi offers temporary housing support for survivors in need of a safe refuge from domestic violence. Our housing program will address the specific needs of the South Asian community including:

• Cultural norms

• Dietary restrictions

• Religious practices

• Communication barriers

• Housing requirements
